March 10 & 11 at Brookwood School in Manchester MA (Mon/Tues 9-3:30)
“The iCore training was invaluable for our entire faculty as we prepared for a year of iPad integration. We are now all talking the same language. Perhaps the most valuable outcome is that everyone feels more comfortable with the iPads and exploration of the apps. Steve, Lynne and Sam inspired our teachers who are still anxiously sharing their discoveries and successes.” -- Scott Laird, Head of St. Mary's Episcopal School (Tampa FL)

iCore includes these topics and themes. We change apps each year but iCore is not about apps. It is about using the iPad to transform your classroom. Yes, this involves apps and skills but it also involves re-thinking educational priorities and classroom pedagogy! We are firm believers that technology is not about hardware and software but rather humanware. Using iPads to help think about content and analysis is important, not the specific apps. Using the strengths of the iPad to help rethink how you function as a teacher is important, not the specific apps.
Integrating iPads into the classroom: In iCore, we will focus on iPads in the classroom from the ground up. Develop your iPad ability from the most basic skills to the tricks and tips for the advanced users. Learn about some of the terrific apps and usaes for the iPads in a 1:1 or shared environment. Discuss the implications of iPads and 1:1 classrooms. The topics covered are relevant for teachers of all grade levels and all subjects.
Student-centered Learning with iPads: Take advantage of the iPad's strengths to address the needs of your students. Explore presentation, mind mapping and podcasting-apps that will allow your students to create their own tutorials and gain mastery over the classroom material. Participants will learn about these assessment tools and generate their own lesson plans. Additionally, participants will explore video production as a means of flipping the classroom for your students. The topics covered are relevant for teachers of all grade levels and all subjects.
iPad Publishing and Digital Storytelling: iCore will focus on using the iPad and iOS tools for publishing digital text and media. Participants will learn about one of Apple's most powerful applications, iBooks Author, software that allows you to combine your course materials including text, movies, images, graphs, tables, animations, and more into an eBook that will display on the iPad. In addition, participants will look at some of the Apps on the iPad to publish multimedia content such as Scribble Press, Toontastic, VoiceThread, PuppetPals HD, iStopMotion, and My Story. The topics covered are relevant for teachers of all grade levels and all subjects.
iCore is for teachers and administrators (and parents) at all stages and all levels! How can this be?
Because we keep everyone together for the talks and discussions on learning, teaching, pedagogy, educational philosophy and issues. And we split up into JV/Varsity/thirds for the skill building sessions and exploration of apps and features. iCore is based on Summercore which began in 1985 and has been described by dozens of people as the best Professional Development workshop on technology they ever attended.
The cost of iCore is $600 per participant -- discounts for 5 teachers or more from any 1 school.
