Challenge #1: Create a Book Title & Cover
The task is to add an image to the Book Title in your newly created iBooks. Click on the Book Title section in your left navigation menu. Find the folder called “Book Cover” to add the cover picture. Click and drag the image directly to the Book Title page in the template frame in iBooks Author. Then add the title and author information in the respective spots.
Tip: Dragging the JPEG file into the placeholder image will force the image into the placeholder frame. Delete the placeholder image and insert your picture in place of it. Then add the image and adjust the to the full size of the page and send the picture to the back (Use the Arrange Menu) so that the title and author of the book show on top of the image.

Challenge #2: Insert the Intro Media
The task is to add a movie that will introduce the reader to your book. Click on the Intro Media section in your left navigation menu. Find the folder called “Intro Media” and drag the movie file called “Larry Bird - Retirement” to the middle of the iBooks page.
Challenge #3: Create a chapter
The task is to create your first chapter in the book. Delete the current chapter by clicking on the chapter on the left menu bar and pressing delete key. Click on Add Pages on the top left of the toolbar and select Chapter > Chapter as your page layout. Add the following information to the existing text book on the title page of the chapter.

Challenge #4: Add text for the first chapter
The task is to add an article to the first chapter. Go to the Insert menu and select Chapter from Pages or Word document. In the folder "Text," select the document and then select the layout style (we suggest the Section Text option).
TIP: You can also click and drag the file from the folders on your hard drive, rather than adding the text from the insert menu. The click and drag feature will be helpful when you want to insert additional media into your book.

Challenge #5: Create a photo gallery
The task is to create a photo gallery, a sequence of images that the reader can swipe through. Choose the Gallery from the Widgets pop-up menu in the toolbar. Drag the Gallery folder to the widget. Then add a title for the gallery and add captions to each image.
TIP: You can turn on thumbnails on the bottom of the glossary so that the reader can go directly to any image by simply clicking on the thumbnail instead of swiping through the sequence of images. You can also reorder and delete images in the Widget inspector.

Challenge #6: Insert a movie
The task is to insert a movie into your textbook, using the Media widget. Click on the Widgets icon from the toolbar on the top and select Media. This will create a "Media widget" on the current page that you are viewing within your book. Locate the Movie folder and then drag and drop the movie file into the widget. You can add a title for the movie as well as a description.
TIP: You can bypass the Insert Widget > Media step by simply dragging and dropping the movie into the section that you want. You can also adjust the frame of the video by simple dragging from the corners.

Challenge #7: Add glossary items to your chapter
The task is to create a glossary chapter. When you make a word or phrase a glossary term, the reader can tap the term to view its definition in an overlay. Find the "Glossary" folder and open up the Terms document. Then, go back to your iBook. In order to create a glossary entry, find (command + F) the first term, highlight the word and click on the Add Term button in the glossary toolbar. To add the definition, double click on the bolded term and you will go directly to the Glossary. Copy the text for this term and paste it in place of the sample text.
TIP: Creating glossary terms and index links is easy using the glossary toolbar. If you don’t see it, go the View Menu and select Show Glossary Toolbar.

Challenge #8: Adding a Hyperlink
The task is to create a hyperlink. Find the first time the author mentions Boston Garden and link to the Wikipedia page for the Boston Garden.
Challenge #9: Adding a Keynote
The task is to insert a Keynote file into the book. Find the folder called Keynote and click and drag the Keynote file "Celtics Lakers rivalry" into your iBook. Add a title and description for the Keynote file.
Challenge #9: Create an Interactive Image
You can provide detailed information about specific parts of a graphic using the Interactive Image widget. Readers can zoom in to enlarge the graphic, tap a label to view its complete description, and easily navigate from label to label. The task is to create an interactive image with different notes about certains parts of the picture. Open up the "Interactive Image" folder. You will see a text file called "Dream Team roster" as well as a picture file. Go to the page where you want to put the interactive image and choose Interactive Image from the Widgets pop-up menu in the toolbar. Drag the picture file from the finder to the newly created widget.
You will want to customize the label text. Open up the text file in your finder with information for the picture. Click one of the sample labels and edit the placeholder text. Paste in the text from the text file. Make sure to move the label point to the correct player (Larry Bird, Michael Jordan, Magic Johnson). To add another label to the image, select the widget and click the Add button (+) in the inspector. Add additional labels for the other two players.
Below are a few more tips regarding the Interactive Image:

- To rename a label: Double-click the label and edit the text.
- To move a label or its target (the endpoint the label points to): Drag it.
- To change the label navigation order: Click Interaction in the Widget inspector, and drag the labels into a new order in the Views list.
- To set the view that appears when the reader taps the label: Select the label, adjust the zoom and position, and click Set View in the overlay.
- To display controls that enable you and your readers to easily navigate between views: Select “Show transport controls” in the Interaction pane of the Widget inspector.
Challenge #10: Create an end of chapter review
The task is create a series of end of chapter review questions for your reader. With the Review widget, you can add a set of three kinds of questions
Scroll to the end of the chapter and choose Review from the Widgets button in the toolbar.
In the Review folder in the finder, you will see a Pages document with the four questions for the Review widget and the correct answer in the parenthesis. You will also see three additional folders with the pictures and content you will need to create these review questions.
Below are a few more tips regarding the Review widget:
- Multiple Choice: Students answer a question with up to six possible answers.
- Drag Label to Target: Students drag up to six text labels to specific locations in a graphic.
- Drag Thumbnail to Target: Students drag up to six images to specific locations in a graphic.

- Create four questions for your Widget and copy and paste the text from the Questions document into each question in your widget.
- Drag the corresponding images and media for the different types of questions.
- Your first question should be a Multiple Choice (text), your second question should be Multiple Choice (image), your third question should be Drag Label to Target, and your fourth question should be Multiple Choice (with an image).
Below are a few more tips regarding the Review widget:
- To add a new question: Choose a type of question from the Add pop-up menu below the Questions list.
- To delete a question: Select the question in the Questions list and click the Remove button.
- To reorder questions: Drag them in the Questions list.
- To change the number of possible answers: Select a question and choose an option from the “# of Answers” pop-up menu next to the question.
- To indicate the correct answer: Select it or drag the label or image to the target. To have more than one correct answer, hold down the Command key while you select the answers.
- To navigate among questions: Select a question in the Questions list.
- To add an image (for “drag to target” style questions): Drag a graphic’s file to the widget.
- To display the Review widget as a thumbnail image in the finished book: Select the “Full-screen only” checkbox.
Finished? Preview your iBook on your iPad
Congratulations! You have now a great Larry Bird Book. You can now preview your iBook and/or publish the book to your iBooks library. To preview your book, you need an iPad with iBooks installed. In order to preview the book, connect your iPad to your Mac. Go to iBooks on your iPad. In iBooks Author, click the preview button on the toolbar (or File > Preview)
TIP: By default, iBooks Author previews the entire book. To change this setting so that iBooks Author previews the current chapter, choose iBooks Author > Preferences, click General, and select “Preview only the current section.” Then select the chapter that you want to preview in the sidebar and go to File > Preview Current Section Only.
