Steve:

Please say goodbye to everyone at Summercore for us. It was a pleasure meeting you. We hope to do this again next summer.

Just one quick question: how do you get the granular effect for the sand & the backgrounds in general?

Janice, Colleen, Annie, Diane (transcribed by Pam Smith .. thanks!)

Here are our last and final results:

BETTYE JO & ANNETTE: Water looks very realistic with the white caps. Like the little boy sitting on the beach. He looks like he is sitting on his legs like little kids do. Ok 's good. where is the beach blanket? did the little boy throw it away. reminiscent of when janice took her kids to the beach when they were little. The water has a nice feeling, with the white-caps and theexpanse of unoccupied sand -- it almost feels hot! Nice luminous feel to the sun with a sailboat on the horizon.

PAT & CHARISSA: I like it but we don't know what to day about the castle. The picture has a rather medieval feel to it, with the stone work, and heavy foliage draping the front left of the picture. Nice treatment of the sea, and you could almost feel the crunch of gravel under your feet as you walked on the gravel path.

CHARLOTTE & CHRIS: What's this about sharks? Whenever I see an ocean scene, there seems to be a shark lurking in the water -- must be a leftover from the movie SHARK. The sand looks like sand, but we thought sand should be white & not brown. Does look good. I hope the little girl is wearing sun screen.

CHRISTIE & LEIGH: What is Leigh's Island, a free-floating one that can be towed away by a brightly colored vessel? Is it a survival raft, filled with dirt, and holding a phony palm tree? I think that it really is an island dream!

CLIFF & MARI: Mountains look like they are from somewhere out West, or in Europe, because mountains in New England are never that craggy. If I wonder where that tunnel through the mountains heads? Most of the pictures tell some kind of the go to undermine story, but I don't know it one is trying to tell me?

GAVIN & LAURA: If they had a most "politically-correct" title, this would be a shoo-in! Environmentally active people would find this almost a usable cartoon! Aside from the masterful use of tools, and drawing ability, this painting I find curious, because I can't and all identify which extinct animal the drawing depicted.

KAREN & GALEN: Again, we have our one and only city-scape! This time with labels, like an old Dick Tracy comic! I found it a gas! Now all that I have is the comic books that people still refuse to throw away. Really a scene for cops & robbers. Typical NYC, with the hot dog vendor. Looks like the movie West Side Story.

MARGARET & KATHY: Don't like the stand of trees, they look like some big giant thing. They look like a Dr. Seuss monster. How about those mountains - they are kind of simplistic. Feels like Switzerland or some place similar. There is much repetition of strokes in the mountains and the cabins, like the painting has a rhythm to it. The mountains go up/down, up/down & the cabin goes side/side, side/side. Looks like a peaceful get away spot for the Fall.

PAM & PENNY: If we have to have mice in The Home, I'll take this mouse. We could nail him down by the ears. Are we in Disney's, Magic Kingdom? Is that Tinkerbell in the top corner? Is the mouse a waiter in his jacket?

REBECCA & MEG: This looks like a long, long walk to the Eiffel Tower. Stopping for wine & cheese on the way. Is that the French flag on top of the tower?

TERRY & MARGARITA: Who do you think is going to win the million? They ought to split the $$$. The volleyball net looks very precarious. The picture looks bleak because there is only one tree to shade anything. Looks like a hot dry place.

STEPHANIE & DANNY: I think the person who drew this did a fantastic job putting this little person on the towel on the beach. The land looks like it is very high. It looks like a ladder going into the swimming area.

Now for the prizes. We pushed return a bunch of times, so go down slowly.

THIRD PLACE: KAREN & GALEN

SECOND PLACE: PAT & CHARISSA

FIRST PLACE: GAVIN & LAURA

p.s. we hear you are heading for the land of Ludd until August 25th .. enjoy your trip!

Land of Ludd "To protest unemployment caused by the Industrial Revolution in the early 19th century, English workers known as Luddites resorted to a campaign of breaking machinery, especially knitting machines. Their name may come from a legendary boy named Ludlam, who, to spite his father, broke a knitting frame. The Luddites revived the name by signing their proclamations "General Ludd," "King Ludd," or "Ned Ludd." The movement began in the hosiery and lace industries around Nottingham in 1811 and spread to the wool and cotton mills of Yorkshire. The government dealt harshly with the Luddites--14 were hanged in January 1813 in York."
