Friday, September 8th, 1-3 PM presentation (required) and 3-4 PM question/answer, one on one and hands on time (optional)
Presentation on designing a webquest
Each Friday session:
"some things old ... some things new
some things to borrow some ... things due"
Friday, October 6, 2000: 1-3 PM
"We would like to continue with web resources and webquests. To prepare, everyone can read through Chapter 14 in the green book. Also, those with web access could continue through the powerpoint presentation on creating webquests on the website."
Here is the
direct link at www.teachingcompany.com/Designwebquest/index.htm
"I think we will begin as a group to reinforce skills and then break up into separate teams based on curriculum areas rather than skill levels to work on either creating a webquest or finding ones appropriate to use."
-- Lynne Schalman --
- JV Exercise (#1): along with your partner(s) pick a theme and find 4 pictures of that theme saving into a new folder on your desktop, e.g. Feb2SteveLynne ... make sure you save the URL for each picture on a notes WP file within that folder
- Extra Credit: going to this summercore link on the topic of "HTML Links, Web Clip Art and a wonderful way to make an animated banner" find 2 extra pictures (beyond your four) from ArtToday OR Barry's Clipart OR Tudogs
- JV Exercise (#2): using Appleworks paint tool, make each of the 4 pictures have a height of about 2 inches; create an Appleworks ONE PAINT WP document that has all four pictures on top half of page in in-line format looking nicely aligned and then all four pictures AGAIN on bottom half other page in floating mode looking something funky and NOT aligned
- Varsity Exercise (#3): using the Mavica camera, we will take a photo of you and your partners. Take the disk to a computer with a disk drive, rename the graphic(s) and send the file(s) to DCD Email to Summercore conference. Use Photoshop, at least one Mavica picture and one of your four pictures to create a Forrest Gump picture, including the URL in tiny writing on the graphic. This will get you involved in Photoshop including layers and various tools. Once done, flatten the image (changing file name) and save as both GIF and JPEG. Send back to Summercore conference so that we call all see it!
- Extra Credit: browse
Summercore web page on Digital Art for more ideas on faculty photos, caricatures and a few Forrest Gump pictures. Check out the links to other schools!

Pioneer Roles
Here are a variety of pioneer roles that might be appropriate. We would like you to choose ONE or more over and share in an e-mail paragraph with us when we close today. Over the next 12 months, we will back at DCD on a number of designated Fridays. Part of these sessions will be to present more "techno-quickies" on neat topics. Part of these sessions will be to do hands-on. But a significant part of these follow-up Fridays will be to work with you on the "pioneer role" that you choose today and/or modify over the coming months!

Some things new
- on your DCD email system, there is now a mailing list of one called Summercore Email that goes automatically to the two of us (Lynne Schalman and Steve Bergen) ... there are also ones called Bergen Email and Schalman Email if you want to write nasty things about the other person to one of us ... these three Email accounts are really codes for bergen@nobles.edu, schalman@nobles.edu and summercore@nobles.edu but they exemplify what you can do with your system, creating COMMON Email addresses so that people do not have to be universally burdened with remembering certain COMMON Email addresses that many people want access to
- on your DCD email system, there is now a conference called Summercore Homework that goes to a non-public conference that only Sonia and the two of us have access to ... but everyone has SEND rights to
- you need to send one note EACH WEEK to Summercore Homework describing what you have done with technology this week or what you are planning to do each the next week
- each person in the program needs to be either focused on AT LEAST one of the specified tasks; tasks (25) and (27) involve being the mentor or trainee of someone else
- there is now an "experimental calendar" called INFO CALENDAR on your DCD Email system for which the resume is a template for someone to add to ... I will share the details with whomever wants to do this, possibly Ellen
- I would like to try to get you to use the "RESUME" system on DCD Email whereby you can double-click on someone's name and get info from her/his resume
- There is now a Summercore (ML) mailing list for the 25 people who attended Summercore 2000; all mailing lists on the DCD system now have a (ML) identifier at the end so that if you type (ML) and push TAB or RETURN, you can see the "list of lists", i.e. the list of all mailing lists!
