With the Progressive Era and the United States beginning to reform, the women's movement brought the lack of women's suffrage to America's attention. The people fighting for women's suffrage were called Suffragists.
The Progressive Era was a period after the 1900's that focused on building a better society. The progressives, people who progressed, were extremely determined to correct what they thought was wrong with their lives. The women progressives were an example of the type of people who wanted to change or reform something about their lifestyle.
The women progressives were frustrated with the lack of women's suffrage. Women like Florence Kelley, Jane Adams, and Frances Kellor, fought for women's suffrage and brought the issue to the nation's attention. The suffragists came together and created orginizations such as the National American Women's Suffrage Association and the National Women's Party. Eventually the suffragists succeeded and the nineteenth amendment was passed in 1919 guaranteeing women the right to vote.
