Do you really know why the United States entered World War I? Most people do not, some believe that it was America's need to police the world and show off their newly found military might. However this is not the case, the United States entered World War I shortly after German U-Boats sank a passenger ship carrying American civilians, the ship was called the Lusitania.

The United States claimed to be a neutral power during the early parts of the war. However the United States was sypathetic to Great Britain and other European powers.Under the leadership of President Wilson the United States gave tremendous amounts of money to Great Britain to aid in their war efforts.

The Lusitania was passanger ship traveling of the cost off Ireland with 1000 passangers. When it was spotted by German U-Boats it was fired upon and sunk. It fell to the bottom of the ocean in just minutes. The reason for this is simple, the hull of the Lusitania was filled with ammunition and other military goods which added weight to the ship and made it sink quicker. Once the Lusitania had been sunk relations between the United States and Germany began to deteriate. In the months to come, the United States would eventually declare war on Germany and the axis.
