Indeed, I tremble for my country when I reflect that God is just.

Thomas Jefferson was an important part of the American Revolution. Jefferson was the author of the Declaration of Independence in 1776. Not only was Jefferson vital to the birth of our new nation, but he was a great leader in the early existence of the United States of America. Thomas Jefferson served many jobs among them governor of Virginia, a congressman, minister to France, secretary of state, and vice president. Jefferson had certain beliefs, which he was unwilling to compromise. He made this known when he was the third president of the US elected in 1800.

Jefferson dedicated his career to forming a democratic republic. Jefferson believes in westward expansion, but at the same time he demanded a strict interpretation of the Constitution. In 1803 he was faced with a problem, when the opportunity arose for him to purchase the Louisiana Territory. Purchasing new territories was never mentioned in the Constitution, but Jefferson made a decision to make what would later be known as the Louisiana Purchase in 1803. This was important in Jefferson's motive of westward expansion, and began a trek west that would last for decades.

During his presidency he also maintained neutrality between the United States, Britain and France. When trouble arose, Jefferson came up with the Embargo Act of 1807 and then the Non-Intercourse Act of 1809. Another important bill that Jefferson had passed came before his presidency in 1798, when he passed the Virginia and Kentucky resolves that gave states the right to declare laws null and void. This would be an argument that would go on for years, and is still fought today.

Thomas Jefferson was a dynamic person and an incredible writer. Thomas Jefferson has become one of the most infamous presidents to ever serve. His great leadership and ability to control difficult situations has made him a role model for past and present presidents. Thomas Jefferson is a symbol of American Democracy.
