Napoleon Bonaparte had a vision of having a French empire in America. Here's how the story goes:

In 1803, under the presidency of Thomas Jefferson, the United States purchased the majority of land between the Mississippi River and the Rocky Mountains from France. The United States felt the need to buy this land because of Westward Expansion. This was made possible because Napoleon abandoned his dream of an American Empire, for 15 million dollars and other pending circumstances. This trade has since become known as the Louisiana Purchase.
