Common Sense
This was a pamphlet written by Thomas Paine in January 1776. It was a call for independence and republicanism. Paine, an Englishman himself, had been condemned in his home country and traveled to America, openly voicing his opposition of the tyrannical English government. Within this influential document, which reached thousands of American homes, Paine explained in a personal and ethical view that we must oppose to the unfair, unjust ways of Parliament and the crown. It was directed maily to those that still remained loyal to, England, our mother country. He made numerous malicious attacks against the English government and convinced Americans that if we were to sucede, this nation would grow into a prosperous union, implementing a democracy. The most powerful and compelling line on the pamphlet was the last: "A government of our own is our natural right, 'TIS TIME TO PART."
