Original Name:    Malcolm Little
Muslim Name:    El-Hajj Malik El-Shabazz
Born:    May 19, 1925
Died:    February 21, 1965

Malcolm was, along with Rev. Martin Luther King, one of the most influential men in race-politics in history.  After a tough childhood, one in which his family was constantly tormented by the Klan and other groups who did not like Malcolm's father's preachings, Malcolm ended up in jail.  In jail, Malcolm, who was by that time Malcolm X, learned of the Nation of Islam and the preachings of Elijah Muhammad.  Overcome by the ideas set forth by Muhammad, Malcolm began to write letters to him, explaining Malcolm's own situation.  Once out of jail, Malcolm went to work for Muhammad.  Malcolm was quickly thrust into the light of the media and preached with fury about everything from oppression to the JFK assassination.  Malcolm was assassinated by a group of four men during one of his speeches on February 21, 1965.
