Harriet Tubman helped many slaves to escape by leading them on the Underground Railroad. In 1858, she worked with John Brown and helped him to plan his raid on Harper's Ferry. Harper's Ferry was planned and organized by John Brown who was an abolitionist and had helped many slaves to escape previously. The raid occured in early 1859 when Brown rented a farm near Harper's Ferry, Virginia. He gathered an army of men and on October 16 he had twenty-one followers and they attacked the federal aresenal in Harper's Ferry. Col. Robert Lee eneded the rebellion and Brown was captured. While planning this, Harriet Tubman and John Brown met in Canada and she told him all about the Underground Railroad and safe places to go in the east. She advised him where to go in the area where he was planning his raid and she promised to give him aid from fugitives who were in the area. Brown greatly appreciated her effort in this and he wanted her to come with him on the raid. Harriet Tubman planned to go however, she became sick and was unable to help in the raid. Harriet Tubamn's effort and advice helped to make the raid on Harper's Ferry possible.
