Each class VI student at Nobles (7th grade) chooses a famous woman in CP1. We are now working on a graphic in one bit color (black/white) to accompany the web page. 11/1/98

This Fall class of 17 students has finished up in December, but a new group of 7th graders will be taking over this project in January 99 and will be collaborating with Ms. Atkinson's students at Shore Country Day School. Unfortunately, one student was absent when we took this picture on 12/14. but might have been in the earlier picture we took at the start of the course.

Ever wonder what famous author was suicidal for many years of her life? Do you know which famous women golfer won 17 straight golf tournaments in 1947? To find out the answers to these questions and more, check out these pages!!

useful tech tips to CP1 students to beware of when you revise your web page ... Ellie Newman

-confusing the letter "O" and the number ZERO
-using the body command twice (once regular, once fancy in )
-web pages have something in common with Larry Bird: ONE body
-unnecessary spaces (i.e. between "bg" and "color")
-instead of they used <center> (in <head>)
-NOTHING goes into HEAD at this stage except <title>short info
-have to test out background and text colors
-colors are sometimes too close or too dark
-smart vs dumb qutoes .. use ' and "
-smart quotes come out as ¦ or ¨
-preferences in ClarisWorks lets you turn off smart quotes
-you can't eat your turkey and have it, too ... I have made your graphics into a background repeating graphic that fills your entire page .. I lightened the graphic so that it serves as a background graphic .. because of this, it covers your color .. that is why the color appears for a few seconds and is then COVERED UP by your repeating background graphic .. the only way around this is to make your graphics be "transparent" gifs using the desired background color as the transparent color .. this is fairly complicated, although we will teach a few of you if you are interested ... the point is that you can HAVE your turkey on wednesday and then eat it on thursday .. what you can't do is EAT your turkey and then HAVE it
update 12/2/98 ... we have re-posted 14 of the 17 pages according to student turn-ins .. the ones that we did NOT post are Chris Boyd, Hayes Davenport and Kate Kiley .. we have put 12/2/98 into the new revised page so it is more obvious when you see it ... we have added Wadi's graphic which was put into the file server CP1 drop box as version 33 ... one mistake that some of are you are making is that you are NOT working on the latest release that is on the web .. therefore, your current version may appear to be WORSE than the previous version .. we have preserved most of the original versions by using 99 as a suffix ... in fact, you may find that your graphic is no longer there ... so if your web page was RPitino.htm, it is now "hiding" on the web as RPitino99.htm but you can still see it ...Ellie Newman & Steve Bergen
