by Hayes Davenport 12/11/98

Louisa May Alcott came into the world in the year 1832. She presented to the world the art of transcendentalism, writing stories depicted in a natural setting. She spent the majority of her life in Concord, Mass., also the setting for several of her stories. Her life was full of many interesting facts. For instance, she dated several other infamous transcendentalist authors, including Ralph Waldo Emerson and Henry Thoreau! Also, her well-known book, Little Women, was based on Louisa's own family life! Plus, as a teenager she toyed with suicide. In addition, she was named after an ancestor, Louis Alcott, which Louisa found very offensive. Finally, she not only wrote novels, but poems and sonnets as well. Following her well-endowed life, she bought the farm in 1888, at 56 years of age.
