The Swiss Constitution

allows three Official languages and four Nationallanguages. The offical languages are

  3. Italian
. Since Switzerland has three official languages, it has three official names. These names are . The Federal Tribunal, Switzerland's high court, must have judges who represent all of these languages group.

The four national languages include all three official languages and Romansh, which is a lot like Latin. Romansh is exclusively spoken in the mountain valleys of the canton of GraubŸnden. It is spoken by one percent of the population.

Seventy percent of the people speak a form of German called SchwyzerdŸtch (Swiss German). It is spoken in the northern,eastern, and central parts of the countries. The language and its name are different from place to place. It is called BaseldŸtch in Basel, and ZuridŸtchin Zurich.

French, is spokenin western Switzerland, it is spoken by twenty percent of the population. Italian, is used by nearly 10 percent of the people, in the south.
