Introducing My Boston Home Pen Pal....

Carl Fabbri

This is some information posted on the Boston Home page that Carl wrote about himself:

I was born in Chelsea in 1940 and raised in Chelsea, went to Chelsea Schools kindergarten through high school. After high school I went into the service, six months active National Guard and 17 years inactive National Guard, where I achieved the rank of Sergeant First Class.Bn Supply Sergeant. In those years I also got married and had four children, two girls and 2 boys. They are now all college graduates on their own. After the service I went to work for a company manufacturing earphones, telephones, and communication equipment. I went back to school and became a traffic manager and got a job as a dock foreman. When the trucking business got slow, I changed my occupation and went into the produce business and, about that time, I came down with Multiple Sclerosis. and am currently enjoying my stay at the Boston Home.

My 1st letter to Carl:
Dear Mr. Fabbri- Hi! My name is Anne and I am going to be your penpal. I am really interested in books and art of all sorts. My dad is a pilot although he was never in the service, but my grandfather was in the Navy. He lost two of his front teeth in a plane crash after World War Two. He was stationed in Hawaii where he met my grandmother, who had come from Georgia to work during the war. My grandfather was also an electronics technician in the Navy and worked on radios. I'm trying to learn Morse code and work on getting my Ham radio license, but it seems to be going very slowly. What are some interests of yours? I must be going now, but I hope to hear from you soon.
			Sincerely,
			   Anne

1st Letter from Carl to me:
HI, Anne. Please call me either Carl or Buddy, not Mr. Fabbri. Glad to have you as a pen pal.Unlimited Morse code is not my forte. I was a communications sergeant in the Army, only it wasn't international, but all local -- camp site to camp site during peace time, thank God. What I liked is the scanner I have the number of the local police and fire departments. and it is interesting to hear the way the fire department and the police departments work on their jobs, especially in your neighborhood that the scanner picks up.Your parents and grand parents are interesting people, and it's nice they can share their life adventures with you. There's a lot of knowledge in the previous generations. Maybe I can share my knowledge with you. I am an avid fan of the movies and I record many of them on the VCR, but the thing is you never have a chance to go back and look at what you recorded. Hope to hear from you again.
Carl Fabbri (Buddy, pen pal)

My 2nd letter to Carl:
Hi again Carl! (or should I call you Buddy? Which do you prefer?) What kinds of movies do you like to record most? I really like older movies and comedies a lot, but suspense is also a favorite of mine. I loooooove Alfred Hitchcock's "The Bird's", and after I saw it I was a little wary of seagulls for awhile. Another great thriller is "Charade" with Audrey Hepburn and Cary Grant. There are tons of twists in it, and you never know what's going to happen. I can't stand Doris Day. Well, I could go on and on about movies and actors and actresses, but my parents are calling me for dinner. I have some homework to do, but I'm not even sure if we'll have school tomorrow. I'm praying for a snow day! Talk to you later, -Anne

(the reply from Carl was lost. Sorry...) My 3rd letter to Carl:
Hi again Buddy. I havent heard from you in a while. I don't like R rated movies much either. I'm really into older stuff. My mom had me watch old Perry Mason shows (the old black and white ones) when I was in third grade. She likes to rent old movies for my family to watch, and sometimes she records movies off of PBS on tv (I'm getting really sick of them). One show I always try to watch is the X-Files. I never used to, but then I was just channel surfing and thought it was a good show. It's kind of strange. Did you get to watch the Super Bowl? I'll talk to you later, -Anne

My 4th letter to Carl:
Hi Buddy. I haven't heard from you in quite some time, so Mr. Bergen is having me write to you again. Nothing much has gone on lately except that my family and I went on a trip to Quebec to do some skiing. My friend came with me and the both of us did some snowboarding. They have really good trails up in Canada, but it was 25 degrees below zero (fahrenheit) one day. Our faces were freezing the whole ride up the mountain on the lifts. My friend took another snowboarding lesson and learned how to do jumps so she was trying to teach me during the last day there. We had a three day weekend because of President's Day and a 5 hour drive home to look forward to on Monday afternoon. I think we'll be going back there next year. I hope you write back soon! -Anne

3rd letter from Carl to me:

I'M GLAD TO SEE YOU COULD GO ON A TRIP LIKETHAT. I'VE ALWAYS ENJOYED TRAVELING. MAYBE SOMEDAY WE CAN GET INTO ALL THE PLACES I'VE BEEN. IT WAS VERYNISE HEARING FROM YOU.
YOUR PENPAL BUDDY.

My 5th letter to Carl:
My mom's name is Judy, just like your daughter's! I bet it would be really neat to have your own house to live in. I can wait though. One thing I can't wait for is driving. Even my mom can't wait for that. She really hates having to drive my siblings and me around all day. Yes, I do love to travel. In fact, this year is a really busy one for my family and me. I've never travelled so much before. During my winter vacation I went down to visit friends who live in Costa Rica and now for March vacation I'm going to Paris! I'm very excited. What places have you visited? I'm looking forward to hearing from you, Your penpal, Anne
