ÒMaking Star Wars wasnÕt like dusting crops, boy!Ó ÒTwenty years ago, I set out to make a movie for a generation without fairy talesÓ -George Lucas ÒThere exists, in every culture, a series of folk tales and stories which make up a part of that cultureÕs history.Ó* These stories are called myths, and George Lucas is the creator of one of them. Originally, his plan was just to create a single movie, with one script, which was basically just a shortened combination of the three that exist now. However, his film-makers later informed him that that just would not work. It was too much for one movie. So he divided the script into three parts and set the later two aside, for then. He went to work putting more detail into the part he had selected, and later making it into the first movie of a historic Trilogy, Star Wars: A New Hope. In the beginning though, film-makers were doubtful that the movie would be any success at all, and therefore Lucas was only given the permission to make the movie was because of his previously successful movie ÒAmerican GraffitiÓ. Even Lucas himself didnÕt expect the movie to be the blockbuster it turned out to be. When it was all finished, it was well done, but Lucas said that he was not totally happy with it. Due to limited time and money, Lucas was forced to cut short on some scenes, and even cut out some scenes. Also, he did not have the proper technology or know how to make some of the scenes as realistic as he wanted them, or get the superior sound and picture quality he was after. Twenty years later, for the 20th Anniversary of Star Wars, he was given a chance to remake his masterpiece. With the use of extraordinary computer technology, he was able to add all of the scenes that were originally meant to be there, plus extra special effects. He improved on the picture and the sound and in doing so, successfully recreated his masterpiece, The Star Wars Trilogy. The Star Wars phenomenon is known throughout the world as being one of the best movies and storylines ever made. You will rarely run into anyone who has never heard something out of the Star Wars Universe referred to or compared to something in real life or in regular conversation. Many people have also seen the original Trilogy, and/or the Special Edition Trilogy, which consists of the three movies: Star Wars: A New Hope, The Empire Strikes Back, and Return of the Jedi. The Star Wars novels and tales of the future are ok once and a while. (But only too see someone elseÕs opinion on the universe and how the story plays it self out in the end.) However, to get the feel of the ÒrealÓ Star Wars Universe, you must watch the Trilogy. I hope you enjoyed reading this brief Star Wars synopsis, and: ÒThe Force will be with you, alwaysÓ By, Carter Roman * Quote written by Chris Foxwell |
