- LOGAL... I recently received an interesting Math CD that might be of interest to you. It is Tangible Math by Logal-this is a new version of an older CD-and it includes Algebra Animator, Geometry Inventor, Function Investigator, Mathematics Toolbox, Matrix Analyzer, Probability Constructor, and Statistics. Each topic is a combination of guided activities and open ended explorations. If you want to check out the software, Logal has an interesting approach.
Tthe deal is that the CDs are $99 each or a lab pack of 5 for $420. But Logal is experimenting with a new strategy-web software. So for $500 per site license up to 30 students can go online and run all of their software in one particular subject area. In other words, that price allows you to have access to all the math titles and 30 students can access them daily-even from home and even if they are in different sections or even different grade levels. You send them your course rosters and they provide passwords for each student.
The best part is that you do not have to go on blind faith for the purchase. They have free 30 day preview for all CDs but even better is a free 30 day guest registration on their website. You simply go to the website of www.logal.net and register as a guest; you will have to download one plug-in to access the software and then you can explore all the titles for the next 30 days. The site, by the way, also has teacher resources, a forum, online lesson plans, etc. so it is worth checking out no matter what. Lynne Schalman 3/11/99
