I would like my Home Page picture with Scuba Gear in front of the Motif #1 in Rockport Mass. This will take me back to the future. Since I can't scuba dive any more This picture will remind me of the past so I can still enjoy it. Linda
I am particularly interested in astronomy. I used to work with Fortran, a scientific language for computers in the late sixties, early seventies. I have a master's degree in counciling psychology from Anna Maria College in Paxton Massachusetts. I recieved my Bachelors degree in phychology from the American University in Washington D.C. I enjoy traveling, I have been to Germany and Scandanavia, Norway, Denmark and Sweden. I used to SCUBA dive in Beverly Massachusetts, and mountain climb with the Appalachian Mountain Club. I once went parachuting. This was my work history: I want to talk about my first job when I graduated from college and my last job when I left the work force. When I graduaed from college I worked with Worcester Biological and Cancer Research. At the same time with Marvin Richmond Photography Studio in Worcester, and going to school at the academy of security and investigation. After that I worked at Jordan Marsh (now Macy's) as a store detective. I worked for ETNA life and casualty as an engineering representative after that. I was assessing the risks for the underwriters. I did that for a few years and then I came down with Multiple Sclerosis. I took a sabatical. I worked for VISTA (Volunteers in Service to America) as a government employee. That was my last job. I was licensed as a psychologist, and did that for a number of years until I had to discontinue my license because I had no where practice counselling and no income. I did a lot of traveling at that time to Germany and Scandinavia. I backpacked in Germany for 2 weeks during the time that the wall was still up in 1973. I was diagnosed with MS in 1975.
I was born in Chelsea in 1940 and raised in Chelsea, went to Chelsea Schools kindergarten through high school. After high school I went into the service, six months active National Guard and 17 years inactive National Guard, where I achieved the rank of Sergeant First Class.Bn Supply Sergeant. In those years I also got married and had four children, two girls and 2 boys. They are now all college graduates on their own. After the service I went to work for a company manufacturing earphones, telephones, and communication equipment. I went back to school and became a traffic manager and got a job as a dock forman When the trucking business got slow, I changed my occupation and went into the produce business and, about that time, I came down with Multiple Sclerosis. and am currently enjoying my stay at the Boston Home.
I would like to have In front of the Fountain of Trevi in Rome, with Rossani Brazzi! (he co-starred in South Pacific!) Looking forward to seeing my story on the Home page. Harriette Maxcey
I am extremely interested in writing especially fiction and editorials. I have a twenty year work base with the airlines and then sixteen years with the Mass Turnpike as an auditor et al. So you can readily see I am not young except young at heart! I volunteer at the adult daycare center here at the Boston Home. I have a great time while I'm there and learn so much from these elders --both men and women!
Here is the beginning of a short story called My Guys that I have written. Click on it to view the rest!

I graduated from UMass Amherst in 1972 with a BFA in painting. I never made much money as an artist, as there were very few opportunities for an out-of-work artist wannabe at that time, but I DID want to eat, so I took the first available job I could find. I spoke to someone in mechanics and went to work for him for a week for free. I started fixing Volkswagens for free for a week - anything for a buck! I started out knowing nothing about fixing cars. After a few weeks I knew what I was doing and so became a paid mechanic on volkswagons. I ended up staying there for ten years and opened a parts department which was very lucrative. Thus, my life completely changed.I have been starting to use computer graphics to draw pictures and to edit with Photoshop. Here is one of my first drawings. Here is a picture of me on that marathon day in April 99. Here is a Corvette greeting card that I made in 12/99 using Photoshop tools including the STROKE feature and the TEXT feature. Here is a picture that I made for Jeff M ... he's crazy about cats, especially big ones! I hit "stroke" so that's why the weird light-blue border is there.
I know that Senam took some pictures of the Continental Divide when he was In Colorado. How nice it would if someone from Summercore could produce a Photoshop altered photograph of me of along with Senam trying to cross the "diigal divide."
Dear Steve ... Hi. How are you? I'm writing to let you know that I would like my Home Page picture taken with me near the Eiffel tower in Paris, France Also would you find out if there is anyone who is interested in learning French. If there is someone have them email me. Your friend from the Boston Home. Diane ... P.S.When mailing me back please use Large print!
I love arts and crafts and activities, but mostly now you will find me in front of the computer. Mostly frustrated trying to find my son's World Wide Web site. But I'm glad to say that we finally did. He also mentioned to me the other night that he will be updating TLMS and saying Hi to the people at the Boston Home, and if they wish to E-mail him they can. My son's Web page for a cable access show is www.channel1.com/users/tims while another one (less reliable) at www.massachusetts.com/times is for his PR business. Marc DeMay has an e-mail address of tims@user1.channel1.com and writes that he won't admit this publicly, but I think Pitino is exactly what the Celtics need!
My son, Marc, is in Medford Mass, at TV three. Betty and Denise have helped me a lot in learning how to use the computer, and I also was able to teach myself by watching. I also want to thank Steve Bergen for his knowledge and expertise.
I think that I would like my picture at the Naigara Falls in Upstate New York.
I like football, I help with crafts and activities, especially with computers. I'm especially intersted in getting to know more about the World Wide Web on my Macintosh computer. And i'm planning to take classes in physical therapy.
I graduated from Suffolk University with my BSBA. My desire was to get into sales, but I applied for a job at General foods in the Post division. I took a job in a Boston investment firm. I was the first college graduate hired in the back office. My job there was to learn the trust accounting system, and from that learn the income taxes and probate acounting systems. I eventually got promoted to Vice President of the company. One of my favorite hobbies was SCUBA diving. Jacques Coustieau is one of my idles. I refer to him as Mont Kapitan. I taught myself most of what I knew about diving. Initially in 1966 I attended Norwich University for two and a half years. While there I was a member of the SCUBA club. During my Sophmore year I taught SCUBA to other cadets. One of my favorite diving spots was in Nahant, which is now the Northeastern Oceanagraphic Center. Prior to that It had been one of the nike missle bases used to protect Boston Harbor.
By the way, I have two wonderful grown children: a son 28 who is in federal law enforcement. and a 25 year old daughter, presently project manager for a consulting firm working with third world countries. Prior to coming to the Boston Home and my illness, I enjoyed skiing, tennis and horseback riding. Though I know these sports are available to the disabled, I have only tried horseback riding. Along with Colleen and Michele, I have told Steve Bergen that I would like to participate in the Boston Marathon in April 1999. Here is a picture of me on that marathon day!

The Retelling by Richard Kaplan
Passover has come and gone. The Mazoh and the seder meal are put aside for another year. The Haggadah's are collected to be stored for next year's use. The story of Moses and the exodus from Egypt will be retold next year. The songs and wine will be saved for next year as the family goes their separate ways. This happens every year, but it is different select the Boston home. Passover is a time for families to get together and celebrate the story of the freeing of the Jews from bondage. Ritual food is displayed on the seder plate which represents different aspects of this story of. This story is retold every year.
Yet at the Boston home the Passover story takes a different path. With the family sitting around the table for the seder, Passover becomes a social celebration. But at the Boston Home, it is more like a lecture. There is a seder, but it moves so fast because the meal is served quickly and the rituals are passed over in a hurried manner. By doing this, the significance of the holiday becomes diminished. The story of Moses and his leading the Israelites out of bondage now becomes material for Cliff Notes. The songs are gone along with the rituals that make Passover so special. When I first experienced this, I felt cheated. The family surroundings that I associated with Passover were now replaced by a trip to the dining room for a meal. I felt like I was in a strange land where the story of Moses, leading his people seems not so important. This upset me very much and I did not hide this disappointment.
I also soon began to realize something else. The story that is so familiar to my family is quickly forgotten here. It fell to me to tell the story of Moses and explain the Passover rituals.
I would tell of how Moses freed the slaves from the ten plagues, the Red Sea, and to the 40 years of wandering in the desert. I would also explain what the different foods on the seder plate represent. I would feel pretty good about myself for doing this, until the next year where I would have to start from the beginning with my Passover lecture again. It seemed as if they forgot or gave the impression that they didn't care. This would get me upset. I had to remember everything about Christmas and Easter, so why couldn't they remember the Passover story?
It was then that I remembered something from the Haggadah which is read and every Passover.
One must tell the story of Moses leading the Israelites out of bondage explaining every ritual afikomen to the afikomen or the breaking of the middle matzoh. If I do not do this, we as Jews would still be considered slaves in the land of Egypt.
We are free since the story of Moses has been told. So I will collect my notes for next year's lecture on the Passover story.
